KEY GAME INFORMATION
PORTLAND: With LaMarcus Aldridge gone, Damian Lillard has free rein in Portland. He's going to get more shots, but he'll have to deal with a few more hands in his face . . . Gerald Henderson provides defensive alongside Lillard, but there will be times when Portland can't stomach his lack of an outside shot . . . Head coach Terry Stotts wants C.J. McCollum to work both guard spots. They might need his offense alongside Lillard to offset the loss of Aldridge . . . Allen Crabbe had a good summer and could break into the rotation as a deep specialist . . . Pat Connaughton could become a 3-and-D guy off the bench . . . Tim Frazier ia insurance in case McCollum doesn't work out as a back-up point guard . . . Al-Farouq Aminu has proven to be a versatile lockdown defender, something that will take the heat off Portland's guards. He's unlikely to develop into much of anything on the other side of the court, though . . . He's more of a stopgap solution, but Ed Davis gives them a serviceable veteran option at the 4 . . . They are not going to find another LaMarcus Aldridge any time soon, but Noah Vonleh has the upside to be a very good two-way player. His ability to step away from the basket is what this offense will need. He's a project after missing most of his rookie year in Charlotte, but Vonleh is the highest-upside big on the roster . . . Moe Harkless gives them another solid, defense-first wing to bring off the bench. He's a zero in the half-court offense and not much better defensively, but the Blazers seem intent on giving Mason Plumlee a shot due to his athleticism . . . With range stretching to the three-point line, Meyers Leonard should have a big role on a team searching for offense . . . Chris Kaman is Plan B at the 4 and the 5.
GOLDEN STATE: Stephen Curry actually played a career low in minutes last season, as Kerr managed him to last through the playoffs. Obviously, it didn't keep him from running away with MVP honors . . . Klay Thompson has developed into a very good shooter. He has a quick release that, along with Golden State's ball movement, allows him to get shots off with ease . . . Swiss Army knife reserve Shaun Livingston will continue to see time at both guard spots, though he's more game manager than dynamic offensive threat . . . Veteran sixth man Leandro Barbosa returns to the champs as well, and is capable of the occasional outburst . . . Brandon Rush will play out the final year of his deal. It didn't take long for Kerr to realize what Draymond Green could do for this team on both ends of the floor, which is why the Warriors won a title last year. Not that there was any chance David Lee was going to siphon minutes short of a Mark Jackson hostile takeover of the coaching staff, but Lee's departure guarantees big minutes for Green . . . He had some great moments in the playoffs, but Harrison Barnes is more of a No. 4 option. He'll also play less than typical starter's minutes . . . Andre Iguodala will continue to come off the bench; his strengths are ball movement and defense . . . Rookie Kevon Looney is an active offensive rebounder who will play sparingly one he returns from hip surgery sometime after New Year's Day . . . Gerald Wallace's contract is what they had to take on to unload Lee, but they flipped him into Jason Thompson. Thompson is a solid big offensively, but probably won't see much playing time for this team. Andrew Bogut is an effective rim protector, but he'll continue to sit often when the Warriors go small ball . . . Marreese Speights is in and out of the rotation due to his strong offensive game and atrocious defense. He's essentially the new David Lee . . . Festus Ezeli plays a similar role to Bogut as a defensive presence with no offensive role.
PREVIEW
Trail Blazers-Warriors Preview
By JOSH DUBOW AP Sports Writer

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) Stephen Curry's knee injury did little to slow down the Golden State Warriors in their first-round series.

Surviving without the reigning league MVP figures to be a little bit harder in the second round against Portland.

Golden State opens the best-of-seven series against the Trail Blazers on Sunday with Curry on the sideline and the knowledge that Portland is able to handle a full-strength Warriors squad after handing them their most lopsided loss of the season.

''It wasn't a fluke,'' coach Steve Kerr said Saturday. ''That's what happens if you play Portland and you throw the ball away. They've got explosive players all over the floor and 3-point shooting everywhere.''

Kerr didn't show his players film of that 137-105 loss on Feb. 19 when Golden State committed 13 turnovers in the third quarter on the way to its most lopsided loss of the season.

Guard Klay Thompson said the players remembered that loss in the first game back from the All-Star break well and didn't need a reminder on film.

''We kind of let our guard down a little bit and just kind of overlooked them a bit,'' Thompson said. ''That's a team you can't overlook. It bit us and we learned our lesson.''

The Blazers sure won't overlook the Warriors, even with Curry not available at the start of the series. Golden State outscored Houston by 60 points in the six quarters after Curry sprained the MCL in his right knee at the end of the first half in Game 4 in Houston.

With a shooter like Thompson, playmakers like Draymond Green and Shaun Livingston and the depth that helped them win 73 games, the Warriors are far more than just Curry.

''That's a championship team,'' Blazers guard Damian Lillard said. ''Even without Steph, they're still a championship team. We've got to keep our mind right, compete and play together. We can't be worried about who's not out there because we just watched them beat Houston by 25 twice without Steph.''

Here are some other things to watch this series:

DYNAMIC BACKCOURT: The Warriors have the game's most potent backcourt with Curry and Thompson but the Blazers are close with Lillard and NBA Most Improved player CJ McCollum. The two combined for 45.9 points per game and are both capable as long-ranger shooters and creators with the ball.

''They have two guys who can make plays all over the floor and shoot 3s,'' Kerr said. ''Houston had one. So when you have two it changes everything, because now you're plugging two leaks and it takes all five guys to be in tune with one another.''

STEPH'S STATUS: Curry could return at some point this series. Kerr said he'd be ''shocked'' if Curry could play Game 2 on Tuesday but said he's supposed to get back on the practice floor within the next few days.

''If he can progress throughout the week, fortunately for us Game 3 isn't until Saturday, Kerr said. ''Maybe we'll get a chance to see him on the court for a couple of days and see what he looks like.''

STYLE OF PLAY: Both teams were content to play at a fast pace in the regular season, with the winning team in all four games scoring at least 128 points. But with Curry's absence and the intensity of the playoffs, the pace might slow down a bit to start this series.

''We were able to score but to beat them, we had to basically outscore them,'' Lillard said. ''Against a team like that, if you don't get stops and you let them get rolling, if we weren't making shots the way we were, we probably would have lost by 30. We can't let them be as comfortable as they were that night. They're going to make shots, we can't get discouraged by that, but every possession matters when you play a team like that.''

QUICK TURNAROUND: The Blazers don't have much time to prepare for Game 1. They finished their first-round series against the Los Angeles Clippers late Friday night, traveled to Oakland on Saturday and will take the court for an afternoon game on Sunday.

''It's going to be pretty simple basketball, pretty simple preparation,'' Portland coach Terry Stotts said. ''As the series goes along, both teams will make adjustments. They've had some time to think about us. It's going to be a challenge.''
