KEY GAME INFORMATION
GEORGETOWN: John Thompson III had three double-digit scorers last season: Jason Clark, Hollis Thompson and Henry Sims, who are all gone. That makes for a younger Hoyas squad that if it succeeds, it will be led by 6-foot-8 sophomore Otto Porter (9.7 PPG, 6.8 RPG). But he didn't even start last year, with the two returning starters being G Markel Starks (7.1 PPG) and F Nate Lubick (3.5 PPG, 3.9 RPG, 2.0 APG). Throw in freshman SG D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera and SF Stephen Domingo, this is a team filled with talent, but a dearth of experience.
VILLANOVA: With three returning starters, Jay Wright has veteran talent to mold, but it remains to be seen if that talent is enough to compete in this deep conference. Last year's leading scorers, Maalik Wayns and Dominic Cheek and their combined 30.1 PPG are gone, leaving a huge scoring void in the Wildcats backcourt. C Mouphtaou Yarou (11.3 PPG, 8.2 RPG) is also back, and the pressure will be on that pair to give this team a chance this year. Wright has also done a solid job recruiting with point guard Ryan Arcidiacono and 6-foot-10 PF Daniel Ochefu both talented enough to play meaningful minutes.

*Georgetown-Villanova Preview* ==============================

By NICOLINO DIBENEDETTO STATS Writer

Georgetown (23-4) at Villanova (18-12), 7:00 p.m. EDT

Otto Porter Jr. continues to be a force for Georgetown, spurring it to the brink of its first Big East title in five years, and potentially a top seed in the NCAA tournament.

Villanova is looking to improve its tournament resume with another win over a ranked foe.

Porter goes for another dominant performance as the fifth-ranked Hoyas seek their longest winning streak in over 12 years by continuing their success against the Wildcats on Wednesday night.

Porter is averaging 19.7 points during Georgetown's 11-game winning streak, but he's netted 27.7 per game on 58.1 percent shooting - 9 for 16 from long range - over the past three.

The sophomore forward was tremendous again Saturday, totaling 28 points, eight rebounds, four steals and three blocks in a 64-51 win over Rutgers.

"Stating the obvious, he can score in a lot of different ways," coach John Thompson III said. "From Day 1, Otto Porter has done everything. And so you look at the rebounds. You look at the deflections. Communication. It's not just about the scoring."

Still, Porter's staggering production is a major reason the Hoyas (23-4, 13-3) need to win just one of their last two games to clinch a Big East championship for the first time since 2008.

Georgetown ends the season with a final Big East meeting with Syracuse on Saturday, but it may have the conference sewn up since it's won eight of the past nine meetings with Villanova (18-12, 9-8).

Beating the Wildcats for a fourth straight time would give the Hoyas their longest overall winning streak since reeling off 16 in a row from Nov. 17, 2000-Jan. 15, 2001.

A regular-season conference title won't be enough for the Hoyas, who are in the running for a No. 1 seed in the national tournament.

"We don't want to sit and take stock on the season and say 'ah, I'm satisfied,' or 'I'm not satisfied.' Well actually I can say I'm not satisfied. But we don't approach the season, the games like that," Thompson said. "If you get enough good wins, that turns into a good season. But we can't talk about the season yet."

Villanova certainly feels the same way heading into its regular-season finale, hoping to bolster its chances at an NCAA berth.

Wins over then-No. 5 Louisville and then-third-ranked Syracuse at the Wells Fargo Center certainly improve the Wildcats' chances. However, they followed a win over then-No. 17 Marquette with a 66-65 loss at Seton Hall on Feb. 25 before falling 73-64 in overtime Sunday at Pittsburgh, which was ranked 23rd.

"We understand there are implications to this game," coach Jay Wright said. "Playing in the Big East Conference, you aren't fazed by playing a top 10 team. I think that's something that has always helped our teams in the NCAA tournament."

Wright is hoping to lead Villanova back to the tournament after failing to qualify last year, and beating Georgetown for the first time since Jan, 17, 2010, would surely help.

"I like the fact we're going to play important games late in the season," Wright said. "That's how I want it to be."

Ryan Arcidiacono is averaging 17.8 points over the past five games after getting 23 while hitting 5 of 8 from beyond the arc against the Panthers. The freshman guard had averaged 8.6 points on 33.3 percent from the floor - 28.1 from 3-point range - over the previous 11 games.

The Hoyas allow 56.3 points per game, trailing only Pittsburgh in the Big East. They have limited opponents to 36.4 percent shooting - 26.6 from long range - during their winning streak
