KEY GAME INFORMATION
SAN DIEGO: The defense was a disaster in San Diego last season, but things should improve despite the departure of S Eric Weddle. Third overall pick DE Joey Bosa will bring heat off the edge, and free agent CB Casey Heyward will help lock things down opposite CB Jason Verrett. Offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt is back in town, which has to make QB Philip Rivers happy'the last time Whisenhunt was OC, in 2013, he had one of his best seasons. RB Melvin Gordon should also be improved this season, as he had his knee operated on in the offseason and will be running behind an improved line.
TENNESSEE: Head coach Mike Mularkey is fully committed to centering his offense around a smashmouth running game, which was reflected by the Titans' offseason moves. RBs DeMarco Murray and rookie Derrick Henry will share the workload behind a revamped offensive line. A significant improvement should be expected from QB Marcus Mariota, who looked more ready as a rookie than many expected. The defense for this team is a question mark, but there are some playmakers in place with CB Jason McCourty in the secondary.
