| VIRGINIA: New head coach Bronco Mendenhall brought in former East Carolina coach Ruffin McNeill to be his assistant. Transfer QB Kurt Benkert had earned the starting job for McNeill's final season at ECU but suffered a season-ending right knee injury in the preseason. | | DUKE: Fifth-year senior QB Thomas Sirk is expected to be ready for the start of the season despite having torn his left Achilles tendon in February. The defense will have to replace All-American safety Jeremy Cash, who is now a Carolina Panther after been the centerpiece of the Blue Devils' 3-3-5 defense.
