| OLD DOMINION: The Monarchs are scrapping their up-tempo offensive attack with a more measured approach, as head coach Bobby Wilder wants to run the ball to set up the pass. The offense will again need to put up points, because the defense won't be much improved over a unit that ranked 96th in FBS in 2015.
| | CHARLOTTE: Charlotte had a tough first season in FBS in 2015, ending the year on a 10-game losing streak during which they had only one win against the spread. The team will try to overcome uncertainty at quarterback with a running game led by senior RB Kalif Phillips, who earned second-team all-conference honors despite missing the final three games with a knee injury.
